Leanne is at Yale ya'll

Posted by Jessica Coker on July 27, 2011 at 4:02 PM Comments comments (0)

Our very own Leanne Borghesi is currently at Yale University at the International Cabaret Conference. Its very elite and we couldn't be more proud that she was accepted! She'll have lots of stories and pictures to share upon her return!!!

Here is the info on the Conference:

The International Cabaret Conference At Yale University is an intensive nine-day teaching program in the art of cabaret performance and trains professionals for the live entertainment industry. The Great American Songbook is addressed and promoted in its entirety, from its origins in the late 19th century through the classic pop standards of the 1930s and ‘40s to today’s contemporary cabaret, musical theater, jazz and pop music. Participating students have come from the USA, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa and the United Kingdom. All classes are conducted in English.

The award-winning faculty and renowned consultants guide thirty-nine students in a collaborative process of critical refining and honing. The conference features classes and lectures covering cabaret performance technique: acting for singers, lyric interpretation, focus and concentration, act structure, act writing, material research, and comedic development.

Seminars are presented on musical director/director relations, arranging, orchestration, composer/lyricist relations, maintenance of the vocal instrument, and image consultation. Participants examine the final stages of act presentation - club relations, marketing, press and public relations, and are introduced to the technical language of light and sound, representation, booking, management and personal networking.

The International Cabaret Conference at Yale University also produces five nights of public concerts in New Haven: Summer Nights Cabaret Concerts at Yale, featuring faculty members and students of the conference. These public performances allow students to observe the performance techniques of consummate professionals in the industry, as they continue to study those of their peers on a daily basis. The final concert, Cabaret Stars of Tomorrow, features all students, demonstrating what they have accomplished in their nine days at the International Cabaret Conference at Yale University.

The prestigious faculty has included Tovah Feldshuh, Rita Gardner, Jason Graae, Carol Hall, George Hall, Laurel Massé, Sally Mayes, Amanda McBroom, Sharon McNight, Pamela Myers, Erv Raible, Pamela Tate and Julie Wilson; piano faculty has included Ron Abel, Tex Arnold, Michele Brourman, Mark Burnell, Steven Lutvak, Shelly Markham, Michael Orland, Alex Rybeck and Paul Trueblood.

The International Cabaret Conference is held on the historic Yale University campus in New Haven, Connecticut, renowned as one of the world’s finest educational facilities, and for its spectacular architecture, world-class museums and libraries. Housing for the Cabaret Conference is in Yale’s new Swing Dormitory, and breakfast, lunch and dinner will be taken in the baronial Tudor Dining Hall of Saybrook College.

Jessica Coker in "Tales of the City"

Posted by Jessica Coker on March 15, 2011 at 1:34 PM Comments comments (0)

Our very own Jessica Coker has just been cast in the World Premiere musical "Tales of the City" at A.C.T. in San Francisco. Come check her out in May-July.

On the bustling streets of 1970s San Francisco, neon lights pierce through the fog-drenched skies, disco music explodes from crowded nightclubs, and a wide-eyed Midwestern girl finds a new home—and creates a new kind of family—with the characters at 28 Barbary Lane. Three decades after Armistead Maupin mesmerized millions with his daily column in the city's newspapers, detailing the lives and (multiple) loves of Mary Ann, Mouse, Mona, Brian, and their beloved but mysterious landlady Mrs. Madrigal, his iconic San Francisco saga comes home as a momentous new musical from the Tony Award–winning creators of Avenue Q and the musical minds behind the glam-rock phenomenon Scissor Sisters. The capstone of the 2010–11 season, A.C.T.'s world premiere musical adaptation of Tales of the City unleashes an exuberant celebration of the irrepressible spirit that continues to define our City by the Bay.

"An extended love letter to a magical San Francisco" —The New York Times

"The most sublime piece of popular literature America has ever produced." —Salon.com

Save the date for A.C.T.'s opening night gala celebrating Tales of the City: Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Dine with the artists under a tented pavilion in Union Square, experience the magic of opening night, then join the cast for a disco party after the show. Order your tickets today.

Come see our very own LEANNE BORGHESI at the Aurora Theatre Company

The Eccentricities of a Nightingale by Tennessee Williams

directed by Tom Ross

April 1, 2011 - May 8, 2011

Known as “the nightingale of the Delta,” Alma Winemiller is a lonely, sensitive misfit hemmed in by her stern, puritanical father and her unstable mother. Rebellious, with an artistic temperament that her father tries to suppress, Alma finds consolation in her music and in the secret lifelong love she has for the boy-next-door. In honor of the playwright’s 100th birthday, Artistic Director Tom Ross helms this powerful play filled with all of the majestic themes, oversized characters, and gentle poetry that has earned Williams his exalted position in American theatre.

1 Reviews Written on Mar 01 2011 The performance was amazing, these ladies have the most beautiful voices and use them in very bold, rude (in a good way), and funny ways. I was completely entertained from beginning to end. I would definitely love to see them perform again.

6 Reviews Written on Dec 29 2010 I cannot give this performance enough stars. Seriously, the girls pulled it out and kicked some ass. Fantastic vocal performances, combined with ROTF comedy. Leanne, Jessica, and Soila brought the house down and the whole audience to their feet...... twice!

Keep your eyes peeled for future performances. These girls don't disappoint.
